An Ideal Application of Non-Invasive Site Management
Located in Budai, Chiayi, the migratory bird wetland is a peaceful ecological park. Many bird species and their symbiotic plant and animal communities reside and thrive here, forming a vast ecosystem. In the southern Budai Wetland, one can spot various bird species, including the Black-faced Spoonbill, the White Spoonbill, and the Red-billed Gull, attracting numerous visitors and birdwatching photographers. Given its expansive size, covering 1,385 hectares, managing the park purely by manpower is difficult and impractical. Over-reliance on human resources could disturb the fragile ecosystem. Moreover, when deploying cameras to monitor the area, a different approach must be taken due to the unique characteristics of the site. Firstly, due to the special nature of the site, the camera deployment needs to be strategic, with a focus on coverage rather than density. Excessive camera installations would waste resources and pose maintenance challenges. To achieve extensive coverage, PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) rapid dome cameras are the optimal solution, as they offer both broad and long-distance coverage.
One of the key features and advantages of PTZ cameras is their high optical zoom capabilities. In collaboration with the park, LILIN deployed PTZ cameras with up to 40x optical zoom, and their infrared projection can reach up to 800 meters at night, fully addressing the park’s requirement for no light pollution while enabling nighttime surveillance.
What tasks do the park's surveillance devices take on? Beyond general video recording, most of the wetland park consists of ponds that visitors cannot enter. The cameras help define electronic fences with human detection, issuing an alert whenever someone crosses the line. Observing bird ecology is another important task: LILIN's intelligent PTZ speed domes can be trained to recognize birds, counting the bird population of each area at different points in time and sending the data to a back-end database for further integration and applications.
